Government departments and several private sector entities have announced financial support for various businesses struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges faced during the lockdown period. However, navigating these various available financial support packages could be very difficult for some companies.

To help companies understand the support they have access to, the COVID-19 Support Finder, a fund location tool for businesses, has been launched by the Western Cape Government, City of Cape Town and Wesgro. The navigation tool offering support is available on the COVID-19 Content Centre. It simply asks the user five easy questions, ranks these answers according to pre-determined criteria, as stipulated by the various relief measures, and provides a list of relief measures applicable for the business. To date the tool contains 130 FAQs, has had over 12 000 visitors and has assisted over 800 people with direct inquiries sent through to supportbusiness@wesgro.co.za

According to Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, David Maynier, the COVID-19 Support Finder is one of many ways that the Western Cape, the City of Cape Town and Wesgro are helping businesses to access some of the available financial relief by making the range of both government and private sectors’ funds available through an easy-to-use online tool. Mayoral Committee Member of Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, James Vos said that our world has been turned upside down by the COVID-19 global pandemic and this crisis calls for innovation and smart solutions. Therefore, now more than ever, they want to support businesses by giving them trusted information that will help them get through this pandemic, stay safe and stay resilient
