STATEMENT BY THE CITY’S MAYORAL COMMITTEE MEMBER FOR ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES AND ASSET MANAGEMENT, ALDERMAN JAMES VOS.

Today, as we celebrate the women of our beautiful City, I am very pleased to say that one of the City’s flagship training programmes, ‘Women in Business,’ will be training more young female entrepreneurs to gain an in-depth, hands on experience of the tech tools available to aid in the growth and development of their businesses. The training started in June 2020 and will continue up till March 2021. Read more below:

Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative (CiTi) is a strategic business partner of the City’s Department of Enterprise and Investment and it works with government, business and society to promote the inclusive growth of the digital economy. The Women in Business Programme is a vital continuation of the partnership between the City and the CiTi to facilitate inclusive digital transformation in Cape Town.

The City-funded programme, which is facilitated by CiTi  is a flagship programme which is specifically aimed at providing strategic support and developing the capacity of female entrepreneurs.

Women business owners are introduced to an extensive range of powerful online and digital programmes to support their business activities. The areas covered include administration, finance and accounting, tax, e-commerce plugins, graphic design, document management, digital marketing and social media, human resources and personality profiling, project management and project communication, legal advice, payments and banking apps.

The majority of the modules are facilitated by mainly women entrepreneurs who themselves have years of experience and have implemented these tools in their own businesses creating a space where interactions are both practical and educational.

In these difficult times, I am also pleased that Citi found new innovative ways to continue the programme and it has been adapted to enable successful delivery and engagement on an exclusively online basis.

Female entrepreneurs who would like to take part in the Women in Business programme can submit their applications on the CiTi’s website or like and follow the Cape Innovation & Technology Facebook page for news and updates.
