Cableway reopens just in time for tourism month

South Africans will soon be able to enjoy the awe-inspiring views of Cape Town from the top of Table Mountain again – one of the New7Wonders of Nature.

With September being tourism month in South Africa, what better time to reopen the Cableway to local and domestic travellers than on September 1.

Managing Director of The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), Wahida Parker said, “We are looking forward to being able to carry local visitors and domestic travellers up to the top of Table Mountain. Our goal is to ensure that every visitor has a world-class experience when enjoying the heritage and beauty of Table Mountain. Therefore, we have taken every step to ensure that the health and safety of our visitors and staff remain our top priority.”

Parker added; “As part of this, we will operate the cableway for visitors in accordance with health regulations and will follow strict Covid-19 health and safety protocols.”

TMACC have been in constant contact with all relevant industry bodies to guarantee that safety measures are put into place to protect its staff and visitors.

No person will be permitted to enter the cable car without wearing a mask and hand sanitiser will be readily available at the lower and top stations. A maximum of 27 people will be allowed in the cable car per ride to ensure social distancing; this number includes the cabin master. The Cableway will undergo a deep clean every 24 hours and will be sanitised after every ride to ensure the safety of visitors and the team.

Visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments such as coffee, tea and water while unwinding at the WiFi lounge situated at the top station. The visitors centre will be open at the lower station where a variety of snacks and takeaway meals will be available at the kiosk.

Tickets are available through Webtickets and are now virtual and mobile-based – removing the need to print out or carry physical tickets.

The Cableway will operate between 08h00 and 15h00 from Monday to Sunday throughout September.
