CAPE TOWN’S INFRASTRUCTURE & DEVELOPMENT
Cape Town continues to advance across sector infrastructure.
Explore the untapped potential of a world-class African metropolis
As South Africa’s oldest city, Cape Town certainly is not antiquated in terms of infrastructure and development in Cape Town. It may be most widely known for sprawling wineries, pristine beaches, Table Mountain and other natural attractions, but it also offers excellent study, work and business opportunities. This is because the region’s economic growth has been perfectly complemented by the comprehensive infrastructure in the city of Cape Town.
In fact, the Mother City boasts a sound infrastructure across all sectors. The local government has also shown a commitment to entrepreneurial expansion and facilitated visible evidence of investment in the world-class CBD. The City spends approximately ZAR8.4 billion annually on maintaining and building new infrastructures and transport solutions. This commitment has created a shared vision of Cape Town as one of the most vibrant and progressive cities in all of Africa. An unmistakable enthusiasm that many investors find attractive here.
There are a variety of exciting initiatives emerging and underway in Cape Town. For example, in 2017, Cape Town became a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a Design City. This has proven to be a catalyst for the creation of valuable partnerships. These, in turn, have been integral in developing Cape Town’s design sector – having encouraged the sharing and creating of knowledge, growing new markets and achieving inclusive, urban sustainable development.
Cape Town’s Connectivity & Broadband capabilities
Since 2014, the City has made significant advances in harnessing the power of technology to become Africa’s Digitech hub. The municipality has, to date, installed fibre-optic cables with a combined length of over 800km and has provided accelerated internet access to over 1 million people. They’ve achieved this incredible feat through nearly 400 free Wi-Fi zones spread out across the metropolis. Current activities are pushing towards affordable open-access high-speed fibre connections being provided to every building in the CBD. There is also a wealth of expanding economic opportunities for business and internet service providers.
Innovative thinking and excellence in service delivery has the potential to unlock investment partnerships and the creativity needed to grow Cape Town’s economy, and improve quality of life for the benefit of current and future generations.
