This week, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos, and City officials sat down with Hout Bay tourism operators in the first in a series of community conversations around product facilitation and marketing strategies.  Read more below:

The event brought service providers from a range of businesses within the industry together to hear local and provincial government officials’ insights on various concerns relating to tourism. The presentations focused on destination management and product readiness.

‘Cape Town is a kaleidoscope of cultures, cuisines and communities and while areas like Hout Bay are some of the metro’s most popular for tourists, it is also important that we as a City lead the way in helping industry providers stay on top of trends and find synergies with their products,’ said Alderman Vos.

Local tour operators, accommodation providers and restaurant owners were among the businesses in attendance. The engagement was the first in a series of targeted communities. The next gathering is scheduled to take place in Langa in May. This year, the community will mark its 100th anniversary.

‘Through these specific interventions, my department aims to help local small businesses further capitalise on the rising traveller numbers. Cape Town had an excellent visitor season this past summer and the City, together with our partners, is hard at work to exceed those figures and realise our goal of creating a tourism-related job in every household,’ said Alderman Vos.
