World Travel Awards Africa: Cape Town, local attractions nominated in nine categories

Capetonians are once again urged to show some love and pride for their home city by voting in the World Travel Awards Africa Region 2023. Read more below:

The World Travel Awards are the gold standard for the industry, bringing global attention to local destinations, attractions and operators.

It also follows a string of other prestigious accolades such as Condé Nast Traveller readers ranking Cape Town as the 9th best city in the world, the UK’s Telegraph newspaper naming it the third-best global city, and the Halal Travel Awards (2022) awarding the city with the Most Promising Muslim-friendly City Destination of The Year (Non-Organisation of Islamic Cooperation).

‘Tourism is a big and important driver of businesses, communities and the economy in Cape Town and when the metro is awarded for its destination appeal, it makes headlines and reminds travellers why they should visit us (again!),’ said Alderman James Vos, the Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.

This year, Cape Town is nominated in nine categories:

• Cape Town International Airport in the category of Africa’s Leading Airport
• Robben Island, Table Mountain, V&A Waterfront for Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction
• The Port of Cape Town in the Africa’s Leading Cruise Port category
• Africa’s Leading Beach Destination
• Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination
• Africa’s Leading City Destination
• Africa’s Leading Festival & Event Destination
• Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination
• The Cape Town International Convention Centre in the category of Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre

In addition, some of the city’s top hotels are nominated in various categories.

‘Thanks to our campaigns and programmes in partnership with organisations such as Cape Town Tourism and Wesgro, the visitor economy in the Mother City is flying high again. This is evidenced by the 23 international airlines that flew into Cape Town this past summer season.
