Recruitment for the 2021 Women in Business programme is currently open. The Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative (CiTi) invites businesswomen to apply to participate in this10-week programme that seeks to empower female founders by providing the tools and guidance needed to integrate technology into their businesses.

Since its launch, the Department of Enterprise and Investment has supported the Women in Business programme and additional funding for the initiative was recently approved by the overseeing council, based on its immense popularity and demand.  Mayco Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, Alderman James Vos, comments on how valuable the programme has become as a tool for entrepreneurs since its inception. The additional funds would go towards recruiting an additional 30 women who would be given insight into how to use technology to promote the growth and sustainability of their businesses.

Alderman Vos emphasises that it is vital for female business owners to be given access to the skills, knowledge and technology that fosters development in order to fully realise economic growth, adding that he was encouraged to be able to offer the opportunity through CiTi.

The 2021 programme requires:

  • Female founders and CEOs who wish to introduce or improve the use of technology in their businesses (at least 51% female-owned).
  • Businesses which must be registered (CIPC) and operational for at least 6 months.
  • Businesses which have to be tax compliant and have a valid BBBEE status in the form of a certificate or affidavit.
  • Applicants who are 25 years or older.
  • Applicants to be available to join one workshop per week (half day) for the duration of the 10-week programme, with a sizable portion of the programme being done online where applicable.
  • Applicants who are available once a month for mentorship sessions for a period of ten months upon completion of the programme.
  • Successful applicants to be able to travel to the workshops which will be held at the Woodstock and Khayelitsha venues where possible. If physical sessions are not possible, an online format will be used to teach certain sections of the programme.

Female entrepreneurs who would like to take part in the programme must submit their applications on the CiTi website or like and follow the Cape Innovation & Technology’s Facebook page for news and updates.

Once an application has been received, one of the CiTi team members will be in touch to discuss the application.
