United Airlines to fly New York (EWR) to Cape Town (CPT) nonstop

We are excited to announce that from 15 December 2019, United Airlines will begin a non-stop three-times weekly service between New York (EWR) and Cape Town. United will operate the seasonal service with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which features 48 seats in United Polaris business class, 88 seats in Economy Plus, and 116 seats in United economy. The seasonal service will operate until 31 March 2020.

Cape Town is the only African destination in United’s global route offering. This new non-stop service will decrease current travel times between both cities by approximately 8 hours while offering excellent connectivity into other major hubs in North America, like Washington D.C, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Chicago, and Houston. The first flight will arrive in Cape Town on 16 December 2019.

Longer Cape Town season for Cathay Pacific

Another exciting route to look forward to from 13 November, is the Cathay Pacific. Offering a seasonal package, 3 times per week nonstop service between Hong Kong and Cape Town until 28 February 2020. The airline first introduced the seasonal route in November 2018 and will be brought back due to popular demand among both South African and Asia-based customers, who were able to travel with more comfort and reduce the travel time and expenses considerably.

Operated by the Airbus A350-900, each flight can accommodate a total of 280 passengers, including 38 in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy, and 214 people in Economy. The aircraft is also equipped with the award-winning seats, all-new in-flight entertainment centres, and inflight connectivity, all of which will ensure a pleasant and comfortable flight for all passengers. The flight also offers great onward connections to Bangkok, Phuket, Bali, and other exciting destinations.

St Helena to Cape Town Flights

For those on the lookout for something different, the remote South Atlantic island of St Helena is now accessible from Cape Town via a direct short haul flight.  The connection launches in the Southern peak season December 2019 and carries through to February 2020.

One of the most remote inhabited islands in the world, St Helena had been strap lined the secret of the South Atlantic. The opening of the award-winning airport in 2017 made access quicker and easier – unlocking a wealth of discoveries and a community so warm and colourful, as expected with a very rare sense of isolation.

Upon arrival, guests embark on insightful expeditions, visiting ancient sights of the island such as Napoleon’s residence, Longwood House, where visitors can walk in the footsteps of the former French Emperor and experience for themselves how he lived and spent his twilight years in exile. Other highlights include a visit to Plantation House, home to the Island’s Governor and Jonathan the tortoise – St Helena’s most famous resident.   At approximately 187 years old, Jonathan is said to be the oldest living land creature in the World.

St James Church too is the oldest Anglican church in the Southern Hemisphere, situated only a stone’s throw from Jacobs Ladder. Built in 1829 as an inclined plane, Jacob’s ladder sits 600ft high and is a gruelling 699 step climb. Completing the walk may be a slightly unnerving but once you reach the top, the location offers a fantastic vantage point of lower Jamestown and views out across the vast Atlantic.

Guests can also expect to immerse themselves in the stunning nature and topography of the island. An Instagrammer’s paradise. Find love under the naturally formed Heart shape waterfall or draw inspiration from the ‘Painters pallet’ with its multiple folds of rainbow coloured earth. Walk the 21 post box walks from craggy volcanic coastlines to lush endemic cloud forests. Swim with the annual migration of whale sharks which have leading World scientists in a frenzy, or simply just enjoy a day scuba diving over the ancient wrecks in the only harbour and encountering many of the endemic marine life. Darwin, Halley, Cook, and many more all contributed to the fascinating History and Heritage of this tiny far flung land.
