The hospitality industry is a significant contributor to Cape Town’s economy as the sector employs thousands of people in the city.

The Airbnb Africa Academy encourages inclusive tourism growth and entrepreneurship in under-resourced communities across the continent. By working with community-based and grassroots organisations, the academy provides tools and resources to support mainly women and youth in under-resourced communities to share their home or host unique experiences thereby further expanding the role of local, healthy and inclusive opportunities in African tourism.

‘Reducing unemployment is key to the City’s vision for Cape Town. We pride ourselves with having a diverse economy that creates jobs and keeps unemployment rates low,’ said Councillor Anda Ntsodo, Chairperson of the City’s Economic Opportunities and Asset Management Portfolio Committee.

The City’s objective is to facilitate sustainable job creation with the aim to help establish tourism entrepreneurs while transforming the tourism landscape in Cape Town.

‘Initiatives like the Airbnb African Academy endorses excellence and creates exceptional learning experiences. This programme in many instances speaks to the City’s vision of creating an inclusive tourism landscape. With these features, we are able to convert an attractive destination into an inspiring destination,’ said Councillor Ntsodo.
