SUCCESS STORY

COMPUTACENTER SA

Global IT services company Computacenter has been running its service desk operation from Cape Town since 2006.

The company has two offices in Cape Town’s northern suburbs and service some of the world’s leading brands in the finance and manufacturing industries.

A recent win for Computacenter SA is a contract to deliver the IT service desk function for London’s Heathrow International Airport, the second busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic and the busiest in Europe. The company has also been awarded a contract with one of the UK’s leading banks, TSB.

Paul Norris, general manager of Computacenter SA, says Cape Town is currently “the place in Africa to invest”.

“From a work point of view, there’s a good resource base to pull from – good skills and a committed workforce. There is a very strong work ethic within Cape Town, people are very committed and quite loyal,” says Norris. “The work-life balance is great for me. It’s a very diverse culture. A lot of European companies are striving to get that balance right – the diversification in businesses. And look no further than our organisation here, it’s probably the most diverse workforce that we’ve got in our whole group.”

Computacenter SA’s 700 staff members serve 44 global clients, primarily in Europe and the US.

About the company’s future growth, Norris says: “We plan to build out our operation within Cape Town. We continue to invest in our people and in our infrastructure. We’ve got a long term commitment because we’ve signed up to a new purpose built facility for 12 years, so we are quite clear with our intent and where we are going. We are very happy with the location, the people and the infrastructure that underpins and supports our operation.”
