INVESTOR CONFIDENCE CAMPAIGN – RELAUNCHING AND REBUILDING INVESTORS’ CONFIDENCE IN CAPE TOWN AND THE WESTERN CAPE

The Investor Confidence Campaign is relaunching to not only reboot Cape Town’s investment identity but position it as a gateway to Africa.

Cape Town’s Investor Confidence Campaign was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we all know, the pandemic and lockdown have put immense economic strain on various sectors, from businesses to families and people’s overall livelihoods.

Initially the ‘Open, For Business’ campaign was aimed at attracting business investment within the Mother City and province. Now, with the relaxation of lockdown levels, it’s the ideal opportunity for the campaign to restart, rejuvenate and retarget audiences who showed interest in potentially wanting to invest in Cape Town by showcasing the city as a gateway to Africa along with its investment advantages.

According to Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, last year, through the City’s targeted approach and funding of Strategic Business Partners such as Wesgro, they secured R2,6 billion worth of investment, created 5 720 jobs and trained 2 048 people.

Right now, economic rebound and pushing towards rebuilding investors’ confidence in Cape Town and the Western Cape is top of mind. The Investor Confidence Campaign was relaunched to position Cape Town’s investment identity, both locally and abroad.

Invest Cape Town, the Western Cape Government, and the InvestSA One Stop Shop all relaunched an investment promotion campaign with the objective of ultimately mitigating the impacts of COVID-19 on key economic sectors. The aim is to re-instate business confidence and to rebuild our economy, from the technology sector, agribusiness, green economy, business process outsourcing (BPO), manufacturing, real-estate and more.

Before COVID-19, the entire user journey allowed potential investors to engage with a specialized Investment Promotion Team who were able to assist them with business expansion plans and business deals. Users would engage with the online creative, and be prompted to click through to the Wesgro contact page.

David Maynier, Western Cape Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, went on to highlight that our economic growth rate is expected to be faster than that of the rest of the country, and that sectors including agri-processing, green energy, manufacturing and BPO are forecasted to take the lead. This simply further reiterates that Cape Town and the Western Cape remain a top business destination and an economic powerhouse on the African continent.

Now more than ever, new, local and foreign investments are needed to reboot the economy, the campaign’s aim is to build off of the equity gained over the previous years to help get Cape Town and the Western Cape back on the investors’ list.

The Investor Confidence Campaign relaunched and went live on 1 October 2020 and will run until the end of February 2021. View the campaign video here:
